Trimble – Soil Carbon Emissions Reduction Project 1 (2020 Nitrogen Use Efficiency)
The project is defined by implementation of a Nitrogen Emissions Management Protocol (NERP) 4R Plan, prepared in conjunction with an Accredited Professional Advisor. Quantifying N2O reductions resulting from the intervention involves nitrogen inputs, time, placement, and the form of fertilizer, in addition to rate of fertilizer application and is based on the National Emissions Inventory methodology for N2O emissions from farmland. The quantification of reductions is based on the Alberta NERP, v2.0 2015, which quantifies reductions associated with the implementation of a 4R plan at various levels of management (Right Time, Right Rate, Right Placement and Right Type). This protocol is used to form the basis of quantification and is supported with additional modeling that was completed during the Ontario-Quebec Environment Ministry Protocol Development Process, updating the 4R BMP Tables with Canada’s top 4R N2O scientists for all of Canada. The process was guided by the ISO 14064:2 principles and procedures.
