Production and utilization of biochar as a stable soil amendment for GHG Emission Reductions
Custom Agricultural Intelligence Inc’s biochar project works on the production and sales of biochar to ensure the long-term storage of carbon through carbonization. Biochar is a carbon-rich material produced by pyrolysis of biomass in the absence of oxygen. Compared to traditional fertilizer, use of biochar as soil amendment reduces soil-borne nitrous oxide emissions and promotes further humus build-up. In the absence of the project, the biomass materials would be degraded through anaerobic process with methane emissions. Therefore, sequestering biochar carbon in soil contributes greatly to the reduction of greenhouse gases emissions, and biochar stability is the most decisive factor that determines its carbon sequestration potential.
