City of Toronto’s Municipal Solid Waste Diversion From Landfill to Biodigestion at the Dufferin Organics Processing Facility
The project achieves GHG emissions reduction by transforming organic residues into compost via anaerobic decomposition with 100% gas flaring. This waste diversion project avoids a large quantity of organic residues from being buried in a landfill where they would also be degraded under anaerobic conditions but where the produced methane would not be 100% captured nor flared but rather naturally released in the atmosphere where it would contribute to global warming.
