The Ontario Biodiversity Afforestation Project (or OBAP) is a small scale grouped Afforestation/Reforestation (A/R) project that is reestablishing long-lived forest species on land historically used for agricultural purposes. The project consists of site preparation and planting of species native to the project areas (jack pine (Pinus banksiana), red pine (Pinus resinosa),black spruce (Picea mariana) and white spruce (Picea glauca)). Carbon will be sequestered over a 100-year time frame in the planted areas, representing an additional removal of Carbon Dioxide (CO2) from the atmosphere. The project is situated in northeastern Ontario, Canada within the Boreal and Great Lakes St-Lawrence Forest Regions.
