The project is a distribution-connected solar power generating facility
with a facility capacity of 13MW alternating current (AC) and occupying
approximately 66 acres of land previously used as irrigated cropland in
Gleichen, Alberta. The generated electricity will be sold into the AESOoperated
Alberta electric system. As a result, Gleichen Solar Project will
offset the greenhouse gas emissions generated from fossil fuel-based
electricity production with solar (renewable) energy.
The project is being developed according to, and meets the standards
and requirements of, the Standard for Greenhouse Gas Emission Offset
Project Developers, version 3.3, June 2025.
The project is also developed in accordance with the Quantification
Protocol for Solar Electricity Generation, Version 1, May 2008.
The project uses the most up-to-date emission factors at the time of
project registration per the Carbon Offset Emission Factors Handbook,
Version 3.2, August 2025.
